Mallorca is an ideal destination for a family getaway. However, here at Hotels VIVA we know that travelling with babies or small children can be quite a challenge, especially if you have to take planes or boats. That's why we highly recommend that you prepare your holiday or getaway in advance and follow our great tips on accommodation, transport, and planning.

3 tips for travelling with babies to Mallorca

Choosing a flight

One of the top guidelines for travelling with babies is to veer on the safe side. It’s usually preferable to choose destinations that are relatively close - journeys lasting no more than four hours. Wherever possible, avoid connecting flights, and make sure you arrive at the airport in plenty of time.

If you’re travelling with babies, your hand luggage should be light, but you’ll need to bring plenty of nappies, wipes and formula milk (if necessary). Most planes have a changing table in the toilet, and if you need water to prepare bottles, the cabin crew will always be happy to oblige.

If you’re travelling with babies on a plane, we also recommend that you choose a flight at a time when you feel that your baby will be more relaxed. Try to choose a time that coincides with your baby’s nap time, and hopefully they’ll sleep through at least part of the journey.

A morning flight is a good option, as earlier flights are less likely to be delayed and you'll have more time to get your children settled when you arrive at your destination.

If you want to travel to Mallorca by boat, make sure you travel at night, as your child is likely to spend most of the trip asleep. In this case, you’ll be able to bring your own car (with the pushchair and the rest of your child's belongings), which will make it easier for you to travel around the island with your baby.

Choose your accommodation well

Mallorca is a perfect holiday destination at any time of the year. However, if you’re travelling with your baby for the first time, we recommend avoiding the high season as you’ll be able to relax more easily with fewer tourists. The months of April, May, and June, as well as September and October, are a good choice.

When it comes to accommodation, our recommendation is to choose a resort with facilities such as a water park, gardens, or children's playgrounds, and with a good restaurant. Many of these resorts are designed for family tourism and you’ll have everything you’ll need for your holiday. Besides that, these types of hotels are usually quiet at night, and you’ll have a better chance of a good night’s sleep.

A good location is also very important if you’re travelling with small children. Some beaches in Mallorca, such as Muro and Alcúdia, are especially recommended if you’re travelling with babies or young children because of their fine sand and clear waters. On the Muro beach, there’s even an area with pine trees that offers you shade and peace and quiet for breastfeeding and bottle-feeding – it’s also a great area to try to get your baby over to sleep.

Our hotels VIVA Blue & Spa, VIVA Sunrise, VIVA Cala Mesquida Resort & Spa and VIVA Eden Lago are perfect for travelling with babies in Mallorca. Choose the one that best suits your needs.

Activities

If you’re planning on travelling with babies to Mallorca, then it’s highly advisable to organise your holiday well. For example, if you want to see a monument or tourist attraction, do so early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when there are fewer people. When travelling with babies, it’s also advisable to buy tickets online and make sure the area has toilets with changing facilities, a bar/cafeteria, etc.

If you plan to stay in the area of Alcúdia or Muro, then you’ll be able to enjoy quiet walks along the beach to relax and unwind. You can also take a boat or catamaran trip to go out to sea and enjoy the marine fauna with your baby.

Mallorca offers plenty of other activities that you can do with your baby. You can visit the small, charming villages of the Tramuntana mountain range, such as Sóller and its famous tram that goes all the way to the port. Or why not visit towns such as Deià or Valldemossa, or the city of Palma? Not to mention the spectacular viewpoints, beaches and the Mondragón nature park, where you can go hiking beside the sea.
