You can find around 40 marinas in Mallorca, out of a total of 250 in the whole of Spain. This Balearic island is a favourite destination for sailing and nautical sports, and welcomes amateur and professional captains and sailors from all over the world.
Mallorca has more than 15,000 moorings and three types of marinas:
-
Yacht Clubs: Privately owned, but open to the public.
-
Private marinas: Owned by companies and requiring membership of the respective yacht club for access.
-
Public marinas: Owned by the local councils, and open to the public.
If you're thinking about renting a boat on your next holiday, it's important for you to get to know the main marinas in Palma and other coastal towns.
Here are some of the main marinas in Mallorca.
Andratx Marina
The Andratx marina is the most beautiful and famous one in Mallorca.
It has two quays and more than 220 moorings, and is especially suitable for yachts.
Most of them are more than 15 metres long and have a draught of 3 metres, although it does also have a slipway for smaller boats.
There's also a fishing dock where, if you wish, you can buy fresh fish.
Many cultural events and activities are held on the promenade.
Club de Mar (Palma de Mallorca)
The Club de Mar is located to the west of Palma Cathedral and the Real Club Náutico.
This Mallorcan marina is totally private and was founded in the 1970s. It has around 200 moorings available for yachts between 12 and 50 metres in length, and has extra services, such as on-site repairs and free wifi.
It's renowned for being quite discreet and private, and is a popular meeting point for celebrities visiting the island in the summer months.
Portals Marina (Puerto Portals) - Palma de Mallorca
Puerto Portals isn't only the most prestigious marina in Mallorca, it's also one of the most exclusive in the Mediterranean.
It has a total of 650 moorings available for yachts between 8 and 60 metres long, and also boasts restaurants and luxury shops.
On its premises there are also meeting rooms, supermarkets, and places where you can take sailing and diving courses.
One of the great advantages of this Mallorcan marina is its excellent location, right in the centre of the Bay of Palma, and relatively close to the capital.
Adriano Marina (Port Adriano) - El Toro
Located to the west of the island, in the town of El Toro, Port Adriano has around 500 moorings and offers space for huge yachts up to 80 metres long.
Designed by Philippe Starck, it's probably the most technologically advanced port in the Mediterranean, and one of the best marinas in Mallorca.
Sa Rapita Yacht Club
Sa Rapita Yacht Club is located in the southern part of the island, close to the Cabrera National Park, and surrounded by unspoilt beaches.
With modern facilities and the option of attending different regattas, it has earned a well-deserved place on the list of the most visited marinas in the Mediterranean. It's also one of the most important marinas in Mallorca because of its commitment to, and respect for, the natural environment and surroundings.
Puerto de Sóller (Marina Tramontana)
Despite its size (around 60 moorings) and the fact that it houses more modest boats than other marinas, the Marina Tramontana de Sóller is one of the most visited places in Mallorca thanks to its excellent location, at the foot of the mountain.
In fact, its scenery is one of its main attractions, and it's an ideal destination for nature lovers who want to take a break and relax in the peaceful surroundings of the port, where they'll find restaurants, bars, and small hotels. Not to mention the well-known Sóller Train.
Cala D´Or
Cala d'Or is one of the largest, most exclusive, and most secure marinas on the island.
It's located in the "Golden Bay" of Mallorca, 60 kilometres from the capital, in the southeast part of the island, and is especially known for its excellent facilities, which include luxury restaurants and a wellness area.
In total, the Cala d'Or marina has around 560 moorings, almost a third of which is reserved for charter yachts.
The particularly charming fishing port of Porto Petro, the town of Santanyí, and the Mondragó natural park are just a little more than 5 minutes' drive away.
