Here at Hotels VIVA we know how important it is to look after our planet.
We are being made increasingly aware of this issue and we are applying more and more approaches related to sustainability, understanding, and acknowledging that nature's resources aren't inexhaustible, and that it's imperative to protect and use them well.
Talking about sustainability means talking about the present day, but also about a greener and fairer future, beneficial to us all.
This means that we must all work together to reverse the damage that we have already inflicted on the planet.
From a practical point of view, sustainability must be present in all walks of life, from the smallest individual actions to the wider impact of the workplace.
Furthermore, public and private entities should seek the collective good, promoting initiatives to reduce waste and making the most of natural resources.
Here at Hotels Viva, we are committed to building a more sustainable future by acting more responsibly in the present.
That's why we have been trying to minimise our carbon footprint on the planet for years through initiatives such as:
At Hotels VIVA, we also work together with the Cleanwave Foundation, and we recently organised a charity day together.
The main objective of this family event was to collect rubbish in and around Cala Mesquida, very close to one of our hotels in Mallorca.
As Antonia Moragues, Director of Fundació Hotels VIVA explains, "we believe it is important to involve our employees in these types of activities that fit in with our philosophy, and to do it in the context of the family, especially with children".
Even though the little ones were the focus of the clean-up operation and the fun eco-emotional workshops organised by Cleanwave, everyone was able to learn about basic issues, such as the importance of not throwing rubbish on the sand or in the sea.
Participants were also able to see with their own eyes how microplastics can find their way into places that we wouldn't even realise, and they learnt how important it is to reuse and recycle in order to implement a Zero Plastics policy.
Our employees told us how useful this initiative is to reinforce and put into practice many of the values they teach their children about at home.
Meanwhile, Mateu LLobera, Director of Hotel VIVA Cala Mesquida, highlighted the importance of this type of event in raising awareness among clients and employees, who can see first-hand how pollution can destroy such a beautiful natural setting as Cala Mesquida, "a stunning, outstanding area that we have been given and that we must preserve for the future".
The Cleanwave Foundation was created with the aim of reconnecting people with nature.
Since its inception, it has implemented projects that support the conservation, protection and regeneration of the land and sea in and around the Mediterranean.
These projects are community-driven initiatives that aim to challenge our consumption habits (including the prevention of plastic waste) and empower young people, through awareness-raising, to become protectors of nature.
The foundation currently manages MedGardens (which aims to regenerate shallow Mediterranean underwater forests) and Cleanwave, a social movement to raise awareness of plastic pollution and offer tangible solutions to reduce it by providing viable alternatives to single-use plastic.
Their goal? To make the Balearic Islands a globally recognised role model for regenerative living by 2026.
