This refreshing Mallorcan dish is a delicious salad made from seasonal foods, among which the following stand out: tomato, onion, green pepper, salt and extra virgin olive oil. The name of this salad refers to the term trempar, which means "to dress" (a salad) in Mallorcan. Are you curious to try this summery Mallorcan food?
Mallorcan coca is a very popular food, similar to a pizza made with a firm and crunchy dough that you can find in most of the restaurants and bars on the island. The most famous is the "coca de trempó", which has green pepper, tomato and onion. A pleasure for the palate!
Arròs is the Mallorcan word for rice, but this dish has nothing to do with the typical Levantine paella. Instead, it's a soupy rice made with various types of meat (chicken, rabbit, pork...), mushrooms and spices. Its name, which means "dirty rice", comes from the dark colour the broth acquires due to the mix of spices added in its preparation process.
This typical Mallorcan dish has a long history, as it is believed that its origin dates back to the 14th century. This meal is made with lamb entrails, cooked as a stew and accompanied by other ingredients such as peppers, aromatic herbs and previously sautéed potatoes. This dish is served hot, so we recommend you try it when the weather is not too hot or just let it cool down before trying it.
Tumbet is another of the most recognized dishes of Mallorcan gastronomy, consisting of a typical vegetable stew. It is made with potatoes, aubergines and red peppers, sliced, fried and then mixed with a delicious homemade tomato sauce. As you can see, an effortless dish that is full of flavour.
Although its name may sound weird, espinagada is another homemade and traditional Mallorcan meal worth trying. Initially from Sa Pobla (just 11 kilometres from our VIVA Blue & Spa hotel), this juicy treat similar to an empanada is usually filled with meat, fish or vegetables.
Whether you like eggplants or not, you're going to love these. They are previously cooked, hollowed out, mixed with minced meat, then stuffed and fried. We recommend grabbing some bread to really enjoy all the exquisite tomato sauce.
You might think it's "just" bread with olive oil, but it's one of the island's most popular and successful foods. This dish is made from slices of rustic bread, preferably brown, smeared with extra virgin olive oil and tomato. Many establishments incorporate other ingredients such as cheese, ham and anchovies for extra flavour. An ideal snack to recharge your batteries mid-morning!
Mallorcan “panades” are popular throughout the year, although they take on a more significant role during Easter. Although there are many varieties, the most traditional is made with a dough stuffed with lamb meat, peas and sobrasada. Without a doubt, another typical product of our land that you should try.
The ensaimada is the undisputed queen of Mallorcan sweet dishes, the most famous dessert on the island. You'll see people bringing them into their flights to take home and share with their loved ones.
Our ensaimada is a spongy cake with a soft texture rolled into a spiral and sprinkled with icing sugar. Although the most typical is the plain ensaimada (which has no filling), it is sometimes made of chocolate, angel hair, or cream... The combinations are endless.
