Mallorca Extreme sports have become very popular over the last few years and more and more people love them and become “hooked” on these kinds of activities. These sports can’t be done just anywhere as they need the right natural conditions. That’s where the Island of Mallorcais a great contender, as its geographical features and numerous partially wild natural landscapes make it the perfect place for many adventure sports.
Mallorca Extreme sports , also known as adventure or risk sports have a number of elements which together, make an irresistible package for many:
Mallorca is like a spoiled child: it’s got everything. Rocks right by the sea, very vertical stone walls, perfect caves that are just asking to be explored. Ultimately, it’s a dreamy backdrop for taking part in all types of sports right in the heart of nature, even for the most adventurous.
Out of all the risky sports you can do in Mallorca, we’d highlight:
This umbrella term includes those sports which can be done in areas which combine two factors: rocks and coast. We’re talking about climbing, jumping into the sea from a height, abseiling or diving, among others.
Specifically, in the north and east of the island you can find areas such as Alcudia or Manacor this is where fans of these sports have found the place of their dreams. They can do incredible jumps from tall rocks and combine risky sports both on land and in water.
The Sierra de Tramuntana is scattered with various levels of canyons, some considered easy, such as Coanegre and others more complicated, including Gorg Blau.
The real jewel for skilled canyoning is Sa Fosca. Its 6km route features more than 40 jumps, many without natural light and heights which go beyond 300m. It’s considered the best canyon in Europe. Demanding, complicated and stunning, it’s pure enjoyment for lovers of extreme sports.
With more than 10,000 known caves, a significant part of Mallorca’s beauty is found underground. Vaults, tunnels, caverns and natural pools lead to stunning, undiscovered places.
Some of these caves, such as Es pas de Vallogornera which measures 73 kilometres, is considered the longest and most spectacular in Europe and has become a must-see pilgrimage for caving fans and professionals.
Mallorca has an abundance of limestone which has created many climbing routes of different levels, making it place of worship for all types of climbers.
The most daring can climb without a rope, exploring the rocks above water to break the fall. It’s a type of climbing known as “deep-water soloing”, which can be done in places such as La Cova des Diables, in Porto Cristo, only suitable for expert climbers with great physical and mental strength and resistance.
