The energy saving mode is activated every time a guest walks into our spa. The same thing happens when they switch on the jacuzzi on their private terrace, or when children play in our heated pools or enjoy the pleasant, comfortable temperature in our rooms at the cooler times of year. Our showers which are so restorative after a day on the beach also save energy. Sounds a bit like science fiction, doesn’t it? In fact, it’s all part of a plan to ensure that our guests enjoy clean and efficient energy. All thanks to biomass.
But how does a biomass plant work? The combustion of organic materials produces a boost of caloric power that is transferred to the water via our mains circuits. Less CO2 is produced, less electricity is used, and the environment benefits from it. Plus, everyone enjoys warmth produced by clean and efficient energy.
In 2012, we launched a project to develop and install biomass energy plants because we believe that it’s possible to manage our hotels in a sustainable way. Since we’re a determined bunch, we’ve already installed four biomass plants… and we aren’t stopping there.
If you stay in one of our Hotels VIVA, such as the VIVA Cala Mesquida Resort & Spa, Vanity Golf by VIVA, VIVA Blue & Spa and the Hotel Rural Predi Son Jaumell, you’ll be surrounded by magical warmth. Here, biomass works its magic to produce hot water and the heating of the hotels and their swimming pools. These were the first hotels, but they won’t be the last. There’s no stopping us! All of our properties will use energy in a sustainable, clean, and efficient way just as they should.
And don’t just take our word for it – our EMAS Registration Certificate proves that we have an established environmental policy in place, that we use an environmental management system, and that we regularly check our system is working, by providing environmental statements verified by independent organisations. Almost zero.
So the next time you visit a hotel, ask where the heat for the jacuzzi or spa comes from. If they don’t know, tell them about our biomass fuel. Because if we all work together, we can reduce our energy consumption and look after the environment.
