Spending a Sunday in Mallorca can be a wonderful experience, and here at Hotels VIVA we want to give you lots of ideas on how you can enjoy your time on our island.

For most people, Sunday is the day of the week when we’re able to take a deep breath, recharge our batteries, and get the strength we need to carry on in life!

Whether you like nature (in which case you'll be delighted by the paradise-like beaches), or if you're more attracted to cities or charming towns, we’ve got great ideas for you!

Have a think about how you want to make the most of your time, because, basically, this island has it all! Picture-postcard sunsets, fairytale lighthouses, an archaeological past, and gastronomy that will awaken all your senses!

Things to do on a Sunday in Mallorca

Get to know Palma

The capital city of Mallorca has plenty to entertain us on a Sunday. Here are three places you shouldn’t miss:

The first is the Cathedral of Mallorca, with its Gothic architecture and impressive rose windows and stained glass windows. When you’re inside, remember to look up and discover the beautiful projections of coloured lights that they create.

The second is the Almudaina Royal Palace, the current residence of the royal family when they visit Mallorca. In its Gothic façade, we can see the convergence of the different styles of the civilisations that have lived there.

The third is Bellver Castle, a circular monument with impressive views surrounded by forests, situated on a hill 112 metres above sea level. You can also visit the Museum of the History of the city of Palma, which is located in the castle itself.

Enjoying nature

If what you like most of all is to enjoy natural surroundings, then Sundays in Mallorca are the ideal time to do it!

You can start with the Alcudia lagoon, a wetland located in the north of the island. Here you can enjoy signposted routes and bird-watching areas. Or why not look for an excursion in the Tramuntana mountain range where you can discover beautiful landscapes, mountain peaks and typical villages to immerse yourself in, such as Banyalbufar, Valldemossa or Deià?

If you’re feeling the heat, then it’s time to cool off and look for a cove that will help you enjoy one of the most beautiful areas on our beloved island. Cala Torta, Cala Mitjana and Cala Estreta are great options and are very close to each other. The beautiful sands and the turquoise of the sea will enrapture you.

You can also head towards more rugged routes, such as Sa Calobra and Cala Tuent, where you can find some stunning areas between the rocky cliffs. And why not take your snorkelling kit with you for a dive?

Visiting the caves and caverns of Mallorca can also be a great way to spend a Sunday. The best known are the Drach caves, but we also recommend the Hams, Genova, and Artà caves.

Traditional Markets

Another great way to spend a Sunday in Mallorca is to visit the traditional markets where you can get a taste of yesteryear.

In the Pollença market, you’ll find handmade products and a relaxed atmosphere, ideal for buying souvenirs that will remind you what a great time you had on the island.

If you go to Santa Maria, you’ll find a fruit, vegetable and flower market, where you can buy good produce and stroll through the pretty streets of this typical Mallorcan village.

Finally, if you like antiques and second-hand goods, then don't miss the opportunity to visit the Consell flea market. It takes place every Sunday from 8:00 to 14:00, and you’ll find everything from furniture and handicrafts to clothes.

Archaeological sites

Mallorca has so much history, and it’s an island with very well preserved archaeological sites. Don't miss the chance to see:

  • Ses Païses in Artà: The most important and best-preserved Talayotic site.
  • Capocorb Vell: One of the most extensive Talayotic settlements in Mallorca.
  • The Roman ruins of Pollentia: Here you can visit the museum, the amphitheatre, and the Roman forum.

Gastronomy: Time to refuel

To make the most of every moment on Mallorca, you need to make sure you “recharge your batteries”. And what better way than by savouring the typical Mallorcan gastronomy?

Two great options are arroz brut (a rice stew with garden produce, meat, and sausage) and frito Mallorquín (a stew made with lean meat, potatoes, red peppers, onions and peas).

Undoubtedly, Mallorca has an irresistible appeal, and its beauty is more than just its incredible coves and beaches. So, our question of what to do on a Sunday in Mallorca has an endless number of correct answers!! We hope that the ideas we have prepared for you today will inspire you and help you enjoy the island to the full.
