5 holiday options to get around Mallorca without a car

In all probability, you'll be arriving in Mallorca without your car. Even if you travel by boat, it's often not worth bringing your own vehicle.

However, this mode of transport offers the most freedom.  Because of this, the first option for many tourists is to rent a car. Even though Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, it's possible to cross it in an hour and a half, and it's a great way to discover hidden coves and small secluded villages.

Rental cars offer us 100% flexibility to enjoy our holidays. What's more, if you rent an electric car, you can recharge it at our hotels.

Having said that, there are also other options for getting around Mallorca. The most popular ones are:

  1. Moped. The moped is one of the best ways to get to know Mallorca without a car. And, besides being a very romantic option for couples, it has other advantages. By renting a moped, you'll find it easier to get around, you won't get stuck in rush hour traffic or crowded places, finding a parking space won't be difficult. and you'll get to know so many places with all the freedom and improvisation that only a moped can offer you.

  2. Public transport. Public transport is a good way to get around Mallorca without a car. The island has a fairly extensive network that connects the capital with many towns and tourist areas, with two overground train lines, one metro line, and 8 bus lines. A word of advice: before your trip, find out about different combinations and connections, as public transport services and timetables change in winter and summer.

  3. Tourist buses. This way of getting to know Mallorca without a car is convenient and affordable, as there are many companies that organise excursions in Mallorca to the most popular tourist spots. The only drawback is that you’ll have to book things in advance and stick to timetables, although this isn’t usually a big problem when you're on holiday. Moreover, this option also enables you to get around the island with your family or in large groups. Some of the places in Mallorca that you can visit with organised excursions are Sóller, Sa Calobra, Caves of Drach, Es Trenc Beach, and the Inca Market. You can also take train or bus tours to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the Tramuntana mountain range.

  4. Segway. Renting a Segway to explore Palma and its surroundings has many advantages. They're electric and environmentally friendly, require little energy and don’t take up much space. This is a really fun active tourism activity, both for couples, large families, or groups of friends.

  5. Renting a bike. Renting a bike for a spot of sightseeing is always a good idea. And, in the case of Mallorca, it's a perfect excuse to get around the capital and the surrounding area while keeping fit at the same time. Getting around the island by bike has a number of benefits. For starters, the climate is mild and pleasant practically the whole year. What's more, the island has many specially designed cycle routes, classified into different levels and difficulties. It’s no surprise that it’s a cyclist's paradise.
