1. Almudaina Palace
If you’re looking for things to do in Mallorca when visiting the capital, then a great free option is to visit this royal palace. The Almudaina Palace was, for a time, the seat of the Kingdom of Mallorca. It currently serves as the official residence for the King and Queen during their stays on the island.
During your visit, you’ll be able to discover the Patio de Armas (weaponry patio), the Arab Baths and the Gothic Hall, with its striking arches in typical Gothic style. This is one of the most popular free activities in Mallorca and you can do it on Wednesdays or Sundays from 15:00 to 18:00.
2. Fundación Joan Miró Museum
Are you a fan of surrealism? Then the Joan Miró Foundation Museum should be on your list, as it contains a very important art collection in this style. Here you can enjoy almost 7,000 works on display, donated, in 1981, by the artist Joan Miró himself, one of the greatest exponents of surrealism, and by his wife Pilar Juncosa.
The legacy that Joan Miró left to the foundation consists of paintings, sculptures, drawings, objects, and graphical works, as well as an unmissable collection with documentary archives and even part of his own personal library. The museum's collection also has works by other artists, and so there’s a great variety to enjoy, as you discover the secrets of the artists of the last few decades.
This is a great activity for art lovers in Mallorca, and can be enjoyed free of charge on Saturday afternoons from 3pm and on the first Sunday of every month.
3. Cala Agulla
One of the must-do activities in Mallorca is to enjoy its unspoilt, wild natural surroundings. And, best of all, it won’t cost you anything! One of the most popular free visits in Mallorca is to visit Cala Agulla, declared a Natural Area of Special Interest in 1991. This cove is in a perfect state of conservation, and so it simply has to figure on your list of things to do in Mallorca.
The crystal-clear waters and the green foliage that surround it make it an ideal place to visit all-year-round. It’s easy to access, making it one of the most recommended easy excursions to carry out with children in Mallorca, and it also has trails for excursions to other coves.

4. The Coves Blanques
Another of the great natural attractions on Mallorca are its caves, although not all of them were created by nature. With an easy level of difficulty and an estimated time of 40 minutes, the so-called Fishermen's Route will take you to the Coves Blanques (White Caves). These extremely deep caves were used for an artillery unit and as a weapons depot.
Fortunately, the caves were never used for this purpose, but they have left us with an impressive piece of work carved out of rock by Republican prisoners between 1940 and 1942, creating a unique landscape. It’s one of the most interesting free activities in Mallorca. We recommend you take a torch, as it will give you a lot more light than your mobile phone. Don’t forget to take a bottle of water for the walk, which, although it isn’t very difficult, can be quite tiring on hot, sunny days.
5. The Marivent Palace Gardens in Palma
The Marivent Palace Gardens are popular with tourists all-year-round. The Marivent Palace, built between 1923 and 1925, is a spectacular construction overlooking the bay of Palma that you simply mustn’t miss; even the Royal Family sometimes uses the palace during their holidays!
Visiting the palace gardens is one of the most relaxing free activities in Mallorca, where you can discover more than 40 autochthonous plant species, overseen by no fewer than 12 bronze sculptures created by Joan Miró.
