Sa Calobra is another of Mallorca’s natural attractions that is breathtakingly beautiful. It is an impressive conjunction of two beaches in a privileged location: between spectacular rocky cliffs and separated by the Torrent de Pareis (a river gorge).
The setting is surprising and remarkably beautiful, which has led to these beaches being among the most popular and frequented in this part of the island. Even though access is far from easy...
Sa Calobra is some way from the main road that crosses the awesome Tramontana mountain range. Instead of being a problem, however, the difficulty in reaching it has only added to its appeal.
The most advisable way to reach the beaches of Sa Calobra is by boat, so you can arrange your visit as a fun day of sailing by yourself or with family and friends. It is bound to be a very special day.
There is a ferry service that departs several times a day for easy passage to Sa Calobra, and you can also get there by car or bus on a long winding road with many sharp bends. It is guaranteed to be an exciting trip!
As we said, Sa Calobra is actually two beaches of different sizes and different types. You could say it is a highly condensed example of the diversity to be found in Mallorca. The smaller beach is really a bay that measures barely 30 metres, with shingle and sand. The other beach, Torrent de Pareis, is larger, around 100 metres, and can be reached by a path of more or less one kilometre, which ends in a narrow tunnel.
Taken together, they are a pair of singular and secluded beaches, especially the larger of the two, as it is even more remote than the other. The most obvious feature of these beaches is the crystal-clear water and absolute calm. There are no water sports and no services like sunbeds for hire. The principle attraction here is to enjoy this remarkable natural scenery in all its unspoiled, wild beauty.
If you want to complete your day out, you can visit the Monastery of Lluc, a 13th century church devoted to the cult of the Virgin. It is also beautiful, historic and surprising, but it lies some distance from Sa Calobra, so you will need a car and a little patience in order to visit it. It takes nearly an hour to get there.
Hotels VIVA have several hotels and motels in the north of the island, so they are ideal places to stay if you want to make trips to the most beautiful and interesting parts of this incredible island of Mallorca.
