Mallorca is the perfect destination for a short break or a family holiday, with or without children, with friends or as a couple. Why? Because this island offers leisure options for all tastes and budgets, and because its climate and its attractions (beaches, mountains, charming villages, culture, cities, etc.) mean that you can enjoy its delights all year round.
In this article we've selected some of the best options and activities for adults in Mallorca.
Gastronomy is a pleasure, and that's why many people organise their trips with an eye to where they'll eat and what dishes they'll try.
If there's one thing our island has, it's a rich and varied cuisine. So, without a doubt, enjoying gastronomy is one of the best activities for adults in Mallorca.
As well as visiting a few emblematic restaurants, on your trip to Mallorca we recommend you make two specific “gastronomic detours”.
The first is the Mercat de l'Olivar, located in the centre of Palma, where you can sample ensaimadas, sobrasadas, Mallorcan cheeses, and camallot. This area also has several gastrobars and seafood restaurants if you'd really like to treat yourself.
The other place you should visit is the Santa Catalina market, the oldest in the city, where you can enjoy a more local atmosphere and savour its typical fresh products.
Wine tourism is in fashion, and one of the best activities for adults is to visit one of the island's typical wineries.
Mallorca has two wine Designations of Origin: Binissalem and Pla i Llevant.
The former is part of a wine-growing region located in the centre of the island and made up of the municipalities of Binissalem, Consell, Santa María del Camí, Santa Eugènia, and Sencelles.
In this area you’ll find up to 8 wineries where you can have a wine tasting or a guided tour.
The Pla i Llevant DO was created in 1999 and comprises 19 municipalities (Algaida, Ariany, Artà, Campos, Capdepera, Felanitx, Llucmajor, Manacor, Maria de la Salut, Montuïri, Muro, Petra, Porreres, Sant Joan, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, Santa Margalida, Santanyi, Sineu, and Vilafranca de Bonany).
This area has 13 wineries in all. Among those you can visit are Bodega Vi Rey and Bodega Miquel Oliver.
If you like art, Mallorca may surprise you well beyond the Cathedral of Palma or the spectacular circular castle of Bellver.
A must-see if you're a lover of modern and contemporary art is Es Baluard, a museum that houses more than 700 works of art by local and international artists from the 19th century to the present day, including works by Miró, Sorolla, and Picasso.
Palma is also home to the Joan Miró Foundation, a project by the architect Rafael Moneo that houses almost 6,000 works by this Catalan painter, as well as two of his workshops.
Mallorca is a very international island that attracts people from all over Europe and all over the world. It isn't surprising, then, that its sometimes rugged landscapes combine perfectly with its more innovative cultural displays.
An example of this is the Santa Catalina neighbourhood, which has seafaring origins and is nowadays one of the liveliest areas in Palma.
Bordered by Son Españolet and Son Armadans, in Santa Catalina you'll find a cosmopolitan atmosphere, with art galleries, small shops, bohemian cafés, and pubs where you'll be able to go and listen to live music or have a drink after dark.
This particular "Balearic Soho" could be an option if you're someone who's looking for the more party-oriented side of Mallorca.
In Mallorca you’ll find many coves to relax in. One example is the Moro cove, located in Santanyí, on the south of the island.
This small cove, surrounded by rocky walls, is one of the best preserved in Mallorca. And although in summer it can get a little crowded, at other times of the year, it’s very quiet and perfect for unwinding and relaxing.
If you're looking for relaxation, then another of the best activities for adults in Mallorca is to visit a spa or have some beauty treatment.
