The island of Mallorca is home to many magical, yet little-known places. On this occasion, Hotels VIVA is going to reveal to you some of the most beautiful parts of Mallorca that you simply mustn’t miss. We’ll also give you some tips for your trip so that you don't miss out on some of the best things to see and do in Mallorca. Let’s start!
Rated by tourists as one of the best places to visit in Mallorca, this emblem of the island and the city of Palma began to take shape more than 800 years ago, around the year 1229, to be precise. Known by the locals as "La Seu", this cathedral has been declared a historical and artistic monument. It’s one of the most admired Gothic temples in the world and an unmissable stop on your next visit to Mallorca.
When it comes to magical places, Castell de Bellver is a good place to stop and contemplate the architectural beauty of the island. Castell de Bellver is famous for its circular shape and its location: built on a hill 140 metres high. It’s a castle that dates back to the 14th century and is located in the best area of Mallorca, with spectacular views of the city of Palma.
One of the best-preserved secret places in Mallorca is the Coves del Drach cave system. The “Caves of the Dragon” are one of the most visited natural wonders on the island. They consist of four caves, nearly 2.5 kilometres long and 25 metres deep. The four caves, called Cueva Negra, Cueva Blanca, Cueva de Luis Salvador and Cueva de los Franceses, are all interconnected.
In one of the caves, there’s a huge underground lake called Llac Martel. If you decide to visit the caves, then don’t miss the classical music concerts held every day. They last around 10 minutes and are performed by a quartet of musicians around the lake, considered to be one of the biggest underground lakes in the world.
Cala Figuera can be found in the municipality of Santanyí, in the southeast of Mallorca. This beautiful place, one of the best on the island, is home to a very picturesque natural fishing harbour. The landscape, mostly dominated by fishermen’s nets and fishing boats floating in the crystal clear waters, means that you’ll find it impossible not to take dozens of photos of this unique place.
In the village of Santanyí, we recommend that you visit its market, which is held twice a week. This is another hidden-away Mallorcan village known for its great local, and very fresh, food. However, you’ll also find stalls selling locally cultivated and craft products such as clothes and souvenirs.
One of the best things to see and do in Mallorca is to visit some of its small villages – you’ll surely fall in love with their ancient streets and buildings. If you’re a history lover, then you must visit Alcúdia, a town where Roman archaeological remains coexist with a modern social life. There, you can discover what remains of the ancient Roman city of Pollentia in the gateway, the Forum, the Theatre, and its wall.
Another unmissable place on this Mediterranean island is Capdepera, a town with a strategic location and a lot of history. Its medieval castle, in particular, stands out, located at the top of the village, and built in the 14th century by King Jaume II. This fortification was essential to enable the population to settle in this area. Furthermore, in the town of Capdepera you’ll find spectacular coves, formed by the geographical relief of the region, such as Cala Ratjada, Cala Mesquida, Canyamel and Font de sa Cala.
On your next visit to the island, you just mustn’t miss its dreamy beaches. Among the most visited beautiful places on Mallorca are its coves with their crystal clear waters, and hidden among the island’s spectacular coastal landscapes. They’ll help you enjoy the Mediterranean like never before.
Considered one of the best beaches in Spain, Playa de Muro is located in the Bay of Alcúdia and is one of the most visited beaches on the island. It’s the longest beach on Mallorca (6km long) and is very popular with families, thanks to its calm, crystal-clear waters.
Spectacular scenery surrounds Cala Ratjada, and makes it one of the most beautiful places on the island. This cove, with its turquoise waters, is surrounded by hills covered with pine trees and amazing rock formations, creating a unique and very natural environment.
In the same area, we can find Cala Mesquida, another of the island's popular beaches, only 350 metres long and surrounded by untouched wild nature. This cove is hidden among sand dunes and is also an ideal place for diving excursions.
Whichever season of the year you choose to visit some of the most beautiful places in Mallorca, we’re sure that you’ll fill your senses with unforgettable images and memorable landscapes.
